2018 The Year That Was
Have you ever thrown yourself down onto the couch after a nightmarish day and thought “holy hell what just happened?” Yeah, that’s been me the past couple of New Years. Thanks to hindsight, it ain’t getting me again! This year I have some bigger and (much) better things in mind and it’d just be rude not to share. First though, let’s take a look at just a few things that went down in 2017. It was chaotic, stressful, fun, exciting, terrifying, and we made some priceless memories:
We became parents (!)
I dealt with a newborn while my other half was out of town on cyclone cleanup for weeks on end (the perks of living in Far North Queensland)
We picked up everything and relocated to South Australia
I was able to continue working as a paramedic for a private company alongside a brilliant team
During the move from Qld to SA, I lost my best mate - our Malamute/Shepherd Vance. She left a big old paw print on our hearts.
I made the decision to build my own business. (Ahem, let’s not forget that at that time, I was employed in a very secure job, and we were already running 2 businesses at home. Wft Ellie)
Actual photograph of me running from 2017 like…
That’s a teensy little snapshot of some of the game changers. Now let’s check out some of 2018 and what it offered me:
We marked off a bumpy 12 months in South Australia
I became a registered health professional! Paramedics recognised? What is this black magic?
I found work coaching in what I believe to be the best gym in my area. Hands down. For miles.
We celebrated birthday #1 for our little man with an over the top Baby Shark party and I accepted my fate as a party mum
I completed my training to become a Life Coach
I got a coach and began investing in my professional and personal development
We took a trip to Hobart and stumbled upon what will be our wedding venue
My incredibly beautiful niece was born
I proudly watched my partner grow a new business into something from nothing
I did Veganuary and committed to going vegan (A year later I’m hooked baby!)
Lessons learnt? That is a whole piece of writing in itself. The biggest take home I think, is if you feel like life is kicking your ass like it did mine (if it really is, adrenal fatigue sucks even more, so listen up!)….
Listen to your body and your gut. Say no to the things that suck your energy. Say yes to some excitingly scary risks. Get up and get yours. We are not trees. We can move. Regardless of your work, relationship, kids, money, health. The power is in your hands, stop giving it away. It often feels as though life is happening “to” us. In reality, we create it. Through thoughts and then actions. Change those and the possibilities are like one of those weird clown handkerchiefs. Bloody endless.
Here is to a powerful and joy filled year. I truly can not wait to be back here writing my 2019 New Years post with epic things to share.
